About EPHC
The objective of the Environment Protection and Heritage Council (EPHC) is to ensure the protection of the environment and heritage of Australia and New Zealand.
The members of the EPHC are Ministers, not necessarily environment Ministers, from participating jurisdictions (ie. Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments, the New Zealand Government, and the Papua New Guinea Government). Scroll down to see the list of members.
About NEPC
The National Environment Protection Council (NEPC) has two primary functions:
- to make National Environment Protection Measures (NEPMs)
- to assess and report on the implementation and effectiveness of NEPMs in participating jurisdictions.
The NEPC is a statutory body with law making powers established under the National Environment Protection Council Act 1994 (Commonwealth), and corresponding legislation in other Australian jurisdictions.
The members of the NEPC are Ministers, not necessarily environment Ministers, from the participating jurisdictions (i.e. Commonwealth, State or Territory Governments). Scroll down to see the list of members.
About the NEPC Service Corporation
The NEPC Service Corporation is a Commonwealth statutory authority which provides project management services and administrative support to both EPHC and NEPC in the development of national environmental policy and NEPMs.

On 5 July 2010, EPHC adopted a new strategic plan to meet its priorities for the period 2010-14. Particular focus is given to issues of air quality, water quality, national heritage policy, waste management and chemicals in the environment, aligning with COAG priorities in these areas. The Strategic Plan can be found below.
On 5 July 2010, EPHC adopted updated Statements of Expectation and Intent in relation to the NEPC Service Corporation, to apply for the period 2010-11/2012-13. These statements can be found below.
