Australian Guidelines for Water Recycling Phase 2 - Stormwater Harvesting and Reuse and Managed Aquifer Recharge

The Australian Guidelines for Water Recycling Phase 1 were released in November 2006 (see below). Phase 2 of guideline development is underway and will focus on three modules - recycled water for drinking (see below), stormwater reuse and managed aquifer recharge.

The Environment Protection and Heritage Council, the Natural Resource Management Ministerial Council and the National Health and Medical Research Council have endorsed the release of draft sets of guidelines in relation to stormwater harvesting and reuse and managed aquifer recharge, as a basis for public consultation.

A copy of the draft guidelines, entitled:

  • Australian Guidelines for Water Recycling: Managing Health and Environmental Risks (Phase 2): Stormwater Harvesting and Reuse and
  • Australian Guidelines for Water Recycling: Managing Health and Environmental Risks (Phase 2): Managed Aquifer Recharge

can be downloaded below. Also available for download is a document entitled Fact Sheet/Frequently Asked Questions. This document provides important contextual information and should be read in conjunction with the draft guidelines.

Submissions on the draft guidelines are encouraged. Written submissions should be sent to:

Mr Haemish Middleton
Project Officer
NEPC Service Corporation
Telephone (08) 8419 1200
Email: hmiddleton@ephc.gov.au

The closing date for submissions is Tuesday 1 July 2008 .

All submissions are public documents unless clearly marked “confidential” and may be made available to other interested parties, subject to Freedom of Information Act provisions. Electronic submissions are preferred and should be provided in Microsoft Word format.

Public forums to discuss the proposed guidelines will be conducted in all Australian capital cities during May and June 2008. A schedule of these meetings is available here (in .pdf format).
